Short-form video app Quibi is shutting down after just six months

Quibi the app that imagined to get in market putting its future on premium short videos failed to get customer attention and exhausting all the option they have decided to shut down the company. Quibi was co-founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg (Holloywood Vetran) and Meg Whitman (Silion Vally Powerhouse) and has raided $2 Billion fund for the company which included investor such as Alibaba and Disney.

The company have all the resource they need(technology, investment, managment expertise and good media coverage) but they failed in six month period and if you look from the start to end journey of the company, we can contribute failure to few basic elments:

  • Their idea of paid premimum short video failed as people are used to look on free short video on tiktok, facebook, insta and other media
  • Their idea of keeping the video for 10 minutes failed to convience viewer, viewer prefreeed video which are very short as in tiktok, insta or longer video on youtube or television channels
  • They adapted mobile only version of their video which also failed to attract viewer as viwers were at home most of the time due to pandemic and prefer to watch videos on computer or on big television screen
  • The company also lacked of social media virality
  • They company based their growth on the number of subscribers where as growth of netflix, amazon, disney and other video streaming services in different regions disabled the company to gain attraction
